What drives the cost of a custom fabricated gate?
Five things: the opening size, the frame material and wall thickness, the infill (pickets, mesh, privacy boards, or ornamental work), the hardware package, and the finish. A double drive gate across a 16-foot driveway is a different build from a 4-foot walk gate in the same style. Quantity matters too; repeat frames for a multi-unit project price better than a one-off. We do not publish gate prices because no two openings are alike. Send the dimensions and we return a number tied to your specs.
Do you sell welded gate frames wholesale to contractors?
Yes. Fence-U supplies welded gate frames to approved commercial accounts, built to the width, height, and style you specify, so your crew hangs the gate in the field without fabricating on site. Frames can ship bare for your infill or complete with pickets or boards installed.
Can a custom gate match a stock fence line?
That is the usual job. We match the picket spacing, rail profile, height, and color of the fence it lives in, whether that is an Ultra Aluminum style from our catalog, a Master Halco chain link run, a vinyl privacy line, or a wood privacy fence with a top cap. Tell us the fence system and the gate is built to sit in it.
What hardware comes with a custom gate?
Every gate is quoted with its hardware: hinges sized to the gate weight, a latch, and on double gates a drop rod or cane bolt for the fixed leaf. For aluminum and pool applications we use D&D TruClose self-closing hinges and MagnaLatch or LokkLatch latches, the same hardware in our Ultra posts, gates, and hardware guide. Heavy wood and steel gates get strap or barrel hinges matched to the leaf.
Do you build gates to field dimensions?
Yes. We fabricate to the opening you measure between posts, not to a nominal size, and we ask for the hinge side, swing direction, grade across the opening, and the post size and material before we cut anything. If the opening is not set yet, we can build the gate first and spec the post spacing for your crew.
What about pool code gates?
Pool barrier gates need self-closing, self-latching hardware with the latch release at the height the local inspector expects. We build the gate to the barrier height and supply the compliant hardware. Tell us the jurisdiction and read our Ultra pool code guide for the panel and hardware details.
